The Infiniti M Hybrid was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show.  At the press conference, Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore stated, “Simply put, the Infiniti M Hybrid will be the most advanced performance luxury sedan hybrid in the market, delivering V8 power and 4-cylinder fuel efficiency.”

The Infiniti M Hybrid is the only vehicle to offer more than 350 horsepower and 30 miles per gallon fuel economy.

The Infiniti M35h features the all-new Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid™ system.  This advanced system consists of a one-motor, two-clutch parallel hybrid design that combines precise, high-speed motor control technology and allows power to be delivered right to the vehicle’s 7-speed automatic transmission.  The system also utilizes an innovative Hybrid Electric Power Steering system and Electric Driven Intelligent Brake regenerative braking system, both which help conserve energy and provide a natural, enjoyable driving feel.

The Infiniti M Hybrid is powered by Infiniti’s 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 engine, which paired with the 50 kW electric motor, provides a hybrid system net power of 360 horsepower.  Torque figures for the V6 engine are 258 lb-ft of toque and the electric motor provides 199 lb-ft of torque.

Even with all this power, the Infiniti M Hybrid provides an expected best-in-class fuel economy.  Estimate fuel economy is 30 mpg highway, 25 mpg city and 27 mpg combined.

The Infiniti M35h can drive on electric power alone at up to 62 mph and can travel on electric propulsion for up to 1.2 miles at a time. Tests have shown that in mixed diving, the Infiniti M35h is able to drive in electric only mode for as much as 50% of the time.

Infiniti of Lisle is pleased to announce that just days from now, on Nov. 18, the 2012 Infiniti M Hybrid will make its debut in North America at the Los Angeles International Auto Show.

Its debut will surely bring with it more news, but Infiniti of Lisle would also like to share with Chicago Infiniti shoppers other recent attention the M Hybrid received from the automotive press.

Jason Kavanagh, the Engineering Editor at Edmunds’ Inside Line, took the Infiniti M Hybrid for an early test-drive and certainly seemed to enjoy the ride.

Kavanagh called the hybrid system in the 2012 M Hybrid “a clever evolution of familiar powertrain hardware.”  Powered by a 3.5-liter V6 working in tandem with a 50 kW electric motor, the Infiniti M Hybrid will be able to produce an impressive 369 horsepower with this combined powertrain.  On electric only power, the M Hybrid will be able to travel at speeds up to 62 miles per hour while operating quietly and smoothly.  Perhaps just as notably, the Infiniti M Hybrid will not make use of a continuously variable transmission (CVT), offering more natural driving dynamics than other hybrids on the road.

He also notes that the “M Hybrid gets up to speed in a hurry,” an outward sign that Infiniti will deliver on its promise of “V8 performance with 4-cylinder fuel economy.”  Official EPA fuel economy numbers have yet to be released, but Kavanagh reports that they are expected to fall somewhere near 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway.

Kavanagh also shares that Infiniti engineers tested a fleet of M Hybrid prototypes in Los Angeles last year, with the gasoline engine required to run less than half of the time during nearly 400 hours on the road.

Now the Infiniti M Hybrid returns to Los Angeles for the International Auto Show, and will soon after make its way to Infiniti of Lisle.
